Little Bighorn Leadership Experience

Crow Agency, Montana

Any successful business leader understands the power of an aligned team, while a fractured or cliquish leadership culture consistently results in poor or even catastrophic results. Battlefield Leadership illuminates key leadership lessons from different organizations and makes them tangible and useful. The importance of cohesion, communicating vision, resolving conflict, and many leadership tools are made plain and practical through the Little Bighorn Leadership Experience.

Two vastly different cultures clashed in south-central Montana Territory in June 1876, culminating in the Battle of the Little Bighorn, popularly remembered as Custer’s Last Stand. When the U.S. Army initiated the Great Sioux War of 1876 its purpose was to force all remaining free-roaming Native Americans onto Indian reservations. An unprecedented alliance coalescing under the leadership of Sitting Bull provided an unexpected challenge to the U.S. Army’s Seventh Cavalry commanded by Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer. As is always the situation in business, leadership and cohesion at multiple levels was the deciding factor.
