Transcontinental Railroad Leadership Program

Near Promontory, Utah, walk the ground where the nation’s first transcontinental railroad tracks joined, linking the United States from “sea to shining sea.” Watch steam engine locomotives re-enact the historic day when freight and passengers could finally be transported from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast and explore the feat of engineering and business that sparked social, cultural, and economic transformation in the Reconstruction Era. Leaders of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroads navigated some of the most difficult terrain imaginable in terms of geography and finance, and their methods hold many lessons for modern pioneers of the business world.

This program is designed to build grit within organizations and enhance the performances of cross-functional teams while teaching leaders to avoid scandals and manage crisis. Participants in this experience will also see the process and value of scenario planning as a strategic tool for considering options beyond the incremental and familiar idea that the future will look much like today.
